Yet more golds as cyclists dominate

Great Britain continued their extraordinary form in the cycling by claiming more medals on the morning of the third day.

Darren Kenny, from Dorset, claimed his second gold medal of the Games in the CP3 kilo time trial, trading the world record with teammate Rik Waddon in the process.

Waddon finished behind Kenny, claiming the silver, after seeing the world record of 1:11.161 he had held for only a few minutes broken by Kenny in 1:08.668.
It’s great to win the gold, but it’s double-edged,” said Kenny.

“We’re a team and you want everyone to win but unfortunately we can’t do that. Luckily it was me this time. I was fully expecting Rik to go out and smash the world record. We train together and I know just what a good rider he is.”

Elsewhere, Aileen McGlynn and Simon Richardson, both already gold medallists earlier in the Games, are guaranteed at least a silver each after qualifying for finals later today (Tuesday).

“It’s a fast track here, we’ve prepared very well, we’re well coached, we’ve got the right equipment, and we’ve settled well as a team. I’m really pleased with that performance and I still feel I’ve got a bit in reserve for the final,” said Richardson.
