Canal-based holidays in Shropshire

The Lyneal Trust is a registered charity that provides holidays and canal boat trips for people with disabilities with their families, friends or in groups from its base at Lyneal Wharf.

The Shropshire Lass, Shropshire Lad and Lyneal Wharf Cottages can be hired separately or in combinations together, by anyone with a disability, and their family and friends. Hire charges are very competitive.

The boats have wheelchair access via an aluminium ramp which can be easily stowed on the cabin top, and a carefully designed interior. Upper bunks on the Shropshire Lass hinge and stow out of the way for easier access to the lower ones. A hydraulic steering wheel allows easier steering. A volunteer skipper is provided for day trips on the Shropshire Lad but a hands-on approach is very much encouraged and passengers are encouraged to steer the boat themselves.

The Shropshire Lass is a purpose designed 70-foot residential canal boat with berths for eight people and finished to a high standard. The boat includes a hydraulic lift and hydraulic steering which enables wheelchair users and others to take part in the running of the boat. There is access to all parts of the boat for wheelchairs and the lavatory and shower are designed for wheelchair users.

The Shropshire Lad is a 45-foot canal day-boat and is also purpose designed. It includes a hydraulic lift, hydraulic steering and ramps. This boat has no sleeping accommodation and is designed for day trips. It is available to groups who are staying in the cottages at Lyneal Wharf and is also available to visitors for day trips.

Lyneal Wharf, with its cottages, utility building and two bungalows with bedrooms offers accommodation for up to fourteen people. The cottage provides the conservatory, kitchen, showers and lavatories, the utility room provides laundry facilities, table tennis and a pool table and the bungalows provide provide sleeping accommodation, washing facilities (including showers) and lavatories.

The whole of Lyneal Wharf is set in a large delightful rural canalside garden. The cottages can be hired with or without the boats.
