Pete plays a comedy blinder

Peter WhiteDisability Now columnist and Radio 4 presenter Peter White has been voted the winner in a stand-up comedy competition run in aid of Comic Relief.

White, who presents You & Yours and In Touch on BBC Radio 4, and has a column Pete's Place in Disability Now magazine, was declared the winner during this evening's broadcast of The Now Show on the station.

He'd faced competition from Today presenter Evan Davies, Libby Perves, the veteran host of Midweek, and Sociologist and broadcaster Laurie Taylor.

Explaining his win, White told Disability Now, "I did gags about stuff that I know", which included jokes about blindness, parenting and the loss of an imaginary guide dog on London's underground.

His prize for winning the poll was the chance to do a routine on the Now Show - which is hosted by comedy duo Punt And Denis - and to read the programme's final credits.  "I even managed to get a blind gag in there", he said.

You can hear a repeat of this evening's Now Show at 12:30 tomorrow or download the podcast from the BBC website.
